Are U.S. students really that bad at science and math?

Here's an article I ran across in defense of Science and Math education in the United States. I thought it was kind of interesting.

  1. Hi Tamra,
I attended a session at the International Reading Association where a presenter (William Brozo) shared the 2006 PISA results in this article. He said that if African American students and Latino students were removed from the analysis, then the U.S. would be ranked 5th or 6th internationally instead of 23rd. This is a good reminder to me of the inequities that are still present in education and it adds another dimension to the PISA results that this author did not mention.

  2. That is so ridiculous how from one article, (that is biased) some politician or philanthropist makes it their personal mission to "save American education." Its like what we learn in this class. Not only do we need to be able to read texts (including the various definitions mentioned in class) but to be able to deduce what points are valid and what is rubbish. Teach the American student that skill and I guarantee better results what ever standardized monstrosity that comes their way.
